How Neurons Transmit Signals

Neurons rapidly transmit information in the body using electrical impulses called action potentials. These impulses result from ion movements across neuron membranes, triggered when incoming signals reach a threshold. The process is all-or-nothing, unidirectional, and can be sped up by myelin sheaths. Action potentials allow the brain to quickly respond to sensory input, control movement, and interpret the environment, acting as the brain's digital language.
